A parent creates and controls each profile
Only an adult parent or legal guardian may create the family account. The parent creates each student profile, chooses a nickname and grade range, controls available learning features and provides the student's username and six-digit passcode. A student does not provide an email address or independently change the profile's grade range, settings or plan.
What the tutor does
TutorClue explains concepts, gives hints, guides homework step by step, quizzes students and coaches writing. Its language and pacing adapt to the grade range selected by the parent. AI responses can still be inaccurate or inappropriate, so TutorClue is intended to be used with parent involvement and is not a replacement for a teacher.
Information stored about a student
TutorClue stores the parent-chosen nickname, sign-in username, securely protected passcode information, selected grade range, learning-tool settings, voice and photo settings, access status and plan entitlements.
TutorClue also stores limited learning-activity metadata used for daily limits and the parent progress screen. This may include the date, tutoring mode, a short sanitized topic label, question counts and quiz correctness. Chat conversations are not stored in TutorClue's application database.
If a child types private information
Students are reminded not to share names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, schools, passwords or other private information. Before a message is processed, automated filters attempt to replace information that looks like an email address, phone number, street address, password or social-media handle. Automated filtering reduces risk but cannot catch every possible disclosure.
Voice questions and read-aloud answers
When enabled by the parent, a student can speak a question and have an answer read aloud. Voice input is converted to text using the device's speech capabilities. TutorClue does not retain an audio recording, and read-aloud speech is produced on the device.
Homework photos
Eligible Premium profiles may use homework-photo support when the parent has enabled it. TutorClue validates the image, removes available image metadata and processes it for that question. The image is not saved in TutorClue's application database. Parents should instruct students to photograph only the schoolwork and avoid faces, names, school details or other personal information.
Third-party processing
After automated redaction, a student's question, grade range and selected mode are processed by OpenAI to moderate content and generate a tutoring response. A homework photo is also processed when that feature is used. Supabase provides database and authentication services, Stripe processes Premium billing, and hosting providers deliver the application. What parents can control
Parents can edit the grade range, enable or disable individual tutoring tools, control voice and photo features, pause AI access, review limited learning history, reset student sign-in details and delete a student profile. Deleting the profile removes its usage and learning-activity records and disables that student's access.
Parent acknowledgment and questions
TutorClue asks the adult account holder to review the parent notice and confirm that they are the parent or legal guardian before creating a student profile. TutorClue does not represent this process as an external privacy certification or safe-harbor approval.
